Troubleshoot:Audio Driver for AC'97 (Vista Driver) Cannot start Code 10

Audio Driver for AC'97 (Vista Driver) Cannot start Code 10

Please help!!

I have a HP Pavilion zd8480ea laptop running Vista Ultimate (Upgrade).
I recently saw on the Realtek website the new vista drivers for the AC'97 audio card.
I downloaded them and installed them and I have checked in the device manager that the drivers are all
there, which they are, but the device manager still says that the device cannot start and has a small warning triangle next to it.
What can I do to get the sound card to work? I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling the files but it fails to recognise
the AC'97 card calling it instead just a WDMA?.
I have no options to roll back the driver either.
Please help before I lose all hope in Vista.

RugbyRef,
Well it appears that you may be out of luck trying to get it work.  I found the below info on the HP website when I searched support for your model.  So it looks like you may not be able to get it to work.

Your notebook PC was not designed to operate with the Windows Vista operating system.
HP does not support the upgrade from XP to Vista for non-HP Certified Vista capable PCs.
HP provides neither Vista drivers nor technical support for non-HP Certified Vista Capable PCs.
Attempting to install Windows Vista on a PC not listed as HP Certified Vista Capable may cause a loss of your programs and personal data, and the PC and peripherals may operate with limited functionality or not at all.
If you encounter operational problems after attempting to install Windows Vista using an unapproved process, and / or install software that is not approved and not provided by HP, HP recommends that you do a clean installation of Windows XP to restore
the PC to its original condition.

Use the System File Checker tool to repair corrupted or missing system files:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Type cmd, and then press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to open the elevated command prompt (I.e. Command prompt with administrative rights).
  3. The User Account Control window should appear, be sure that the action it exhibits is correct, and then press the Continue button.
  4. Type or copy paste the below command line into it without quotes:
  5. "Sfc /scannow"
