The symptoms you describe would first lead me to look at failing cooling fans clogged with dust and subsequent heat problems.
Computers are built to automatically shut down if internal components reach critical temperatures.
This would certainly explain the older computer's unexpected shutdowns as both Hulu and modern games will tax a computer's performance, putting marginal cooling to the test.
However, your new computer should be handling the performance demands.
I would look at your new computer's
Event Viewer log file immediately after one of the shutdowns to see if they provide a clue.
When the computer starts up after a shutdown, immediately click Start then type
event viewer and hit .
Look in the Windows Logs, System log entries.
You will have to skip over quite a few that were created as Windows restarted but you should be able to see the time gap when the computer shut down.
But you need to get this done reasonably quickly.
It would appear you are running out of time to return the product to the point of sale.

Machine Throttling
  • Click the Start button.
  • In the Search box, type "regedit" (without quotes) and press Enter.
  • Look for the following registry key: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions".
  • On the right window pane, delete the subkey: "Machine Throttling".
  • Reboot your system.
