Black Screen followed by extremely slow boot, but no entry in Event Log

Hello,
I have been experiencing some issues with my Win7 machine recently.
What happens:
From time to time, the screen suddenly turns black.
Music still continues to play for a few seconds and then breaks off.
There is no blue screen and the computer keeps running.
When this happens I can still connect to the machine via Remote Desktop and enter my password, however I never get past the "Logging in..." screen.
My only option is then to do a cold reset.
When I then start the machine again it takes very long (several minutes) to boot, getting stuck for a long time at the Windows logo on black background screen.
I would like to analyze these issues, however neither the crash nor the slow reboot seem to leave any traces in the Event Logs.
The crash does not create a Minidump (despite that setting being enabled) and the boot does not occur in the Diagnostics-Performance
logs at all.
What might be going on here? How do I debug this?
