CHKDSK window momentarily flashes up and it freezes in safe mode.
Original title: CHKDSK nightmare
All I want to do is chkdsk but i encountered the following instead;
1.
When I use 'Run' in start menu, type CHKDSK C:/f/r + blank window momentarily flashes up, then nothing.
2.
Try to open command prompt + get 'specified command search directory bad'.
3.
When I open task scheduler I immediately get error message 'The task image is corrupt or has been tampered with' for the following; disk defrag,disk cleanup C,createchoiceprocesstask,CHKDSK,AD RMS rights policy,template,management(ato),uninstall,usertask,consolidator
etc.
4.
Under admin events - critical, event404, taskscheduler system service RPC error.
5.
In computer management services, click on Displaylinkmanagement (status -blank, startup type -auto) then action,then start + get error 1067:the process terminated unexpectedly.
6.
CHKDSK only runs in safe mode but in stage 5 of 5, verifying free space,it freezes at 14% free clusters processed + the HDD/ODD system indicator is no longer lit.
Have to use power off button.
